Dell Inspiron 15z 5523 Ultrabook Review – Specs, Features and Price
Ultrabooks were initially designed to satisfy the growing needs of computer technology, and was more common with small screen laptops. With increasing demands of large screen laptops, this new Dell Inspiron 15z(5523) series , just has taken over this myth of ultrabooks being limited to small screen as this laptop offers the experience of ultrabooks into a large screen as well.
So, the newly launched Dell Inspiron 15z equipped with a 15.6- inch display, 15z which is clubbed with tech industry’s fetish for thin device which does meets the need of average user.
DELL’s 15z starts from 749 euros with a core i5 processor (cheapest available processor of intel), 6GB of RAM, and a 128GB solid state cache driver.
At over 2kg , Beautifully designed, and known for its simplicity with silver brushed aluminum lid has a chrome dell logo in the center. Rounded corners and light grey border of plastic lid add to its brilliantly captivate design. The black lit keyboard with a large grey touchpad and a pair of discrete mouse buttons complete it. But is not suitable for outdoor usage because of its glossy screen.
Dell made a good decision to use Corning Gorilla glass which is supposedly scratch resistant also used in samasung’s Galaxy S3, for the Inspiron 15z’s glossy, 1366 x 768 display. It has a maximum brightness upto 212 cd/m² with a quite good contrast ratio of 650:1. And ofcourse this made it more eye captive than 14z series.
The level measured is upto 42 db which is not so good. While playing Dvd the drive may produce little noise though it will not create any disturbance in your movie.
Keyboard and touchpad
15z has black lit spill resistant keyboard with a nice back light. User can effortlessly type over the 3.9 x 2.3-inch writing space provided. Windows 8 gestures such as easy swiping, traditional multi swiping way, both mouse buttons are fairly mushy.
The only heating section is on the bottom, round the AC jack. After doing a stress test we came to a conclusion that in order to protect hardware from heating, the CPU is not allowed to cross its base clock frequency.
Connectivity is a strong point. There are 4 USB 3.0 ports(2 on each side),along with HDMI, a combo headphone jack, a card reader slot.
15z has a webcam with a resolution of 1.3 megapixels. We can easily use skype video calling but nothing more as it shows some noise while a picture is clicked through a test.
The device is embedded with the cheapest intel i5 processor family, being cheapest amongst its genre, offering a good value for the money invested. Ranging from a frequency of 800mhz to 2.5ghz when idle and at maximum usage respectively. Studded with the Intel Graphics HD 4000, which is used in simpler applications in order to save power it has a second graphic card i.e Nvidia GeForce GT 630M, which gives a great gaming and 3D experience. The best part being the smart performance, the laptop switches over to either of the graphics card, as per the usage, hence offering a good power consuming option.
With a battery life of 7 hours in standby mode, 5 hours while using the Wlan and constant surfing , and upto 1 hour in average while the laptop is put into maximum usage.
Overall it is good buy gadget for the techspecs mentioned meeting the demands of an average middle class consumer. Though can’t be called as a super computer, yet it is remarkable with its own specifications.
